When most people think of Finland, they think of forests, saunas and cellular phones, reindeer and the midnight sun. Finland is also becoming well known for another product, "spectrolite", a semi-precious gemstone used in jewelry. Spectrolite is a stone of spectacular color shades, blues, blue greens, greens, yellows, golds, coppers, pinks, maroons, and purples. A stone may contain only one color or a combination of these colors. As light shines upon a piece of spectrolite, the light reflected back from the interior of the stone is one or more of its shades of color which makes the stone appear to glow. As the stone is turned, the colors flash across the face of the stone.
