Jay Hendrickson Hunter

$1,500.00

ABS Master Smith, Jay Hendrickson was inducted into the BLADE Magazine Cutlery Hall Of Fame® in 2021. He crafted this beautiful mirror polished clip point hunter. The blade has a "Moran Edge", or what Bill Moran referred to as an apple seed shape/grind - a hallmark of Jay's work, who learned this from Bill. This is a slightly convex profile, extending to the back of the blade. The handle is tiger maple with silver wire inlay and a red cabochon. The wood features carved leaves on a stippled backgound and this knife features the design on both sides. Jay is a true sole author of his knives, forging blade, carving, and inlaying the handle and hand sewing his own sheaths. One side of the blade is marked - Hendrickson - and the other - MS (for Master Smith.) We purchased this from Jay at a knife show in Las Vegas.

Jay started making knives in 1974, while working at IBM. Jay became a full time knifemaker in 1987 and received his Master’s Certification in 1989. Jay was one of the ABS members instrumental in forming the W. F. Moran School of Blade smithing in Washington, Arkansas and the Bladesmith Museum in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has been teaching the basic blade smithing course at the school since its beginning. Prior to this, Jay taught ABS classes at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY for five years. He was recently inducted into the Cutlery Hall of Fame. More photos on request.
