Paw Kuksa with Antler Art

$129.96

The Kuksa is a wooden cup traditionally made and carried by the Saami, the indigenous people of Lapland in Northern Finland. These kuksas have been used for as long as people can remember. Hunters and hikers use them for drinking while out in nature, from hot coffee to cold water from the stream. It is easy to carry on one’s belt as it is durable in all weather and is made to last.

These Paw Kuksas are made of carefully selected arctic curly birch. Each kuksa is made by hand. They are decorated with a scrimshawed animal on reindeer antler on the paw of the kuksa. The kuksa is boiled in salt water to treat the wood, and then treated with poppy oil and coffee. This makes them durable and long lasting. At first your kuksa will taste a bit salty but that will fade with use. The leather straps on these Kuksas are reindeer leather. Kuksas are made from renewable materials and they are true nature products.

Kuksas do not need any special care. They do not need to be washed, although you may rinse out the kuksa in clean water. Do not put it in a dishwasher or in the microwave or leave liquid sitting in it for too long. The simple design is functional as well as pleasing to the senses. The softness and warmth of the wood against your lips as you drink is a unique experience.

The animal images available are salmon or capercaillie. At checkout you can choose the animal you prefer.
