The Arora Line™

The Arora Line celebrates the reindeer of Arctic Finland. Carefully crafting this unique material into items that capture the spirit of reindeer running free. While many mammals have just one layer of fur, reindeer have two layers of thick, furry, brownish-gray hair. The layer closest to their skin is dense, wooly, and soft. The old winter fur starts to moult in the summer and the new fur starts to grow in August. The winter fur is extremely dense and the heat-insulating air pockets make it light, but well-insulated. Hence, a reindeer in good condition can survive even in -50 degrees Celsius in the winter. On top are long, hollow “guard hairs.” Air gets trapped inside these heat-insulating air pockets and holds in body heat to keep the reindeer warm. These hairs also help reindeer to float; they are excellent swimmers! An adult reindeer can have 1700 hairs in one square centimetre and the fur is 3-4 cm thick.
